Footprints – Bramblefields

In the summer of 2012, CCI worked was commissioned by Cambridgeshire Early Years Service to develop outdoor learning projects with two educational settings. I worked with the Shirley Community Primary school reception class alongside CCI practitioner Deb Wilenski. Over ten weeks during the summer term we made weekly visits to a local nature reserve, coming back to the classroom in the afternoon to find ways of bringing our outdoor learning practices into the traditional classroom setting. We – children, staff and artists – took our time and enjoyed finding the freedom to discover and learn about the wild space. We found ways to nurture and value the children’s engagement so as to inspire and value the creating and making of stories by the children. The children shared their stories, acted them out, became the characters in them as they played, wrote them and drew them.
