CCI Forest School
CCI‘s first Forest School project began in the autumn term of 2007, taking Early Years children from the North Cambridge Children’s Centre to the nearby Milton Country Park. I worked with the teachers, parents and the retired school headteacher to devise opportunities for outdoor creative learning and play. We visited the park every week throughout the seasons, using simple and natural materials to inspire play. The children delighted in finding their own ways of engaging with this semi-wild space, drawing endless connections between what they saw and their imaginations. Sometimes working alone, drawing, creating pathways… Sometimes gathering into small groups to adventure together…Sometimes coming together, working alongside their parents and teachers to engage with more complicated ideas, such as building huge nests.
